How to: Install a EIDE hard drive controller card.

Solution:

Observe ESD considerations, and install the legacy EIDE hard drive controller card.

WARNING: Electrical shock hazard! Make sure the power is turned off and the external power cables have been disconnected before removing the computer cover.
CAUTION 1: This task should be performed by a qualified computer technician.
CAUTION 2: Please observe steps to reduce the potential damage to computer components from electrostatic discharge.
NOTE 1: Skip steps 1) through 12) if you are installing a new EIDE hard drive controller and cannot boot your computer from a hard drive.
NOTE 2: EIDE hard drive controllers commonly use the interrupt request (IRQ) value of '14' for the primary EIDE controller and '15' for the secondary EIDE controller. Use steps 1) through 12) to determine if there are any devices using IRQ '14' or '15'. Refer to the EIDE hard drive controller adapter card manual to determine which IRQ values can be set using jumpers on the card.
NOTE 3: If there is an EIDE hard drive controller is embedded on the motherboard, you may need to disable the EIDE controller on the motherboard before the new controller adapter card can be installed. You can add the new EIDE hard drive controller as a secondary EIDE controller with the EIDE hard drive controller on the motherboard configured as the primary EIDE controller. For further instructions on how to configure multiple EIDE controllers, contact next-level support or refer to the technical manuals for your computer, and hard drive controllers.
NOTE 4: Some EIDE hard drive controller adapter card also include a floppy drive controller. If you are not going to use the floppy drive controller on the EIDE hard drive controller adapter card, you disable the floppy drive controller before installing the adapter card. Refer to the adapter card manual or contact next-level support for further instructions.
